How did you come to work at Pretty in Pink Boutique?
I have been a customer of Pretty in Pink for several years. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer at the age of 27 and my oncologist in Cool Springs referred me here to get my garments. However, my career started here through Holly Sneed at our survivors’ groups October party. I asked her if she was still at PIPB, and she said yes, and even though I already had a job, God kept telling me to ask her if they were hiring so I did, and the rest is history.
Favorite thing about working here?
Knowing that I helped a patient and put a smile on their face when they walked out the door. I love helping people, and especially breast cancer patients because I have walked in their shoes and I can somewhat relate to what they are going through.
What do you do in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling especially to the beach, working on puzzles, crossword puzzles, and shopping.
Tell us about your family.
I have been married to my husband Shawn for 18 years and we have two beautiful children – Xavier (16), Amelia (3), and our 9-month-old puppy Tech. Our two kids are our miracle babies.
Xavier was born two months early, with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck twice, and was blue. He spent 45 days in NICU. Amelia, who was very unexpected (since I was told by three doctors that I would not be able to have a child after the intensive chemo I had when I had breast cancer) was born in 2018 at 38 weeks weighing four pounds and spent a week in NICU due to jaundice. Our son is truly a survivor and has fought twice to stay here. Last year after falling and not being able to move his right side, a large brain mass was discovered on the left side of his brain. After a nine hour operation and no guarantees if the surgery would be successful at saving his life or allowing him to walk or speak again, by God’s grace and prayers from loving people around the world, he not only shocked us as parents but the doctors as well. After three days, he was able to feel the doctors touch the right side of his body, wiggle his feet, and speak. After a month in the hospital, he walked out of the hospital to rehab across the street. While he has a way to go, he is back to dancing, making Tik Tok’s, and playing basketball.
Where are you originally from?
Born and raised in a small town named Sugar Grove, VA (population 889). I moved to Murfreesboro in 2004 with my husband who is originally from here.
