Guide to Post-Surgical Camisoles and Bras

The purpose of this Guide to Post-Surgical Camisoles and Bras is to help you navigate the most common questions people have while preparing for breast surgery.  These topics can be covered specifically for you based on sharing information with one of our Certified Mastectomy Fitters in a private fitting, which you can arrange by calling us at (615) 777-7465 or email us here.  Some of the most common factors include:

  • The Type of Surgery You’re Having
  • The Surgeon Performing the Surgery
  • Your Body Type
  • Your Activity Level
  • Your Insurance Coverage

Will I Need a Camisole or a Bra?

Based on your answers to a series of simple questions, one of our Certified Mastectomy Fitters can help you determine what’s best for you.  For example, some surgeons have a very specific garment preference, while others leave it up to you.  Our recommendations are often influenced by what we’ve seen work best for other customers.

The type of surgery often points us in a specific direction because of the anticipation of drains.  Drains can be awkward to manage, and it’s common that you might have between 1 and 4 for anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks.  That’s entirely based on what your surgeon feels is best for you.  We help you manage drains with adjustable drain pouches and other accessories.

Examples of Post-Surgical Camisoles

Wear Ease, Inc.

There are times when the situation can call for a specialty garment from a specific manufacturer, but our preferred products are by Wear Ease.

Wear Ease Recovery Camisoles offer support with a unique built-in shelf bra. Inside each camisole, elastic encircles the entire torso allowing easy and convenient re positioning of the removable drainage tube pouches. Pouches may be placed in any location around the circumference of the torso, and adjusted quickly and easily at any time.

These camisoles can then be worn for leisure after surgery or during radiation. Internal pockets for breast forms or prostheses make these camisoles a comfortable and long term solution for after surgery care.

Here are some examples of their post-surgical camisoles:
