How do compression garments work and when should you wear them? Beth, our certified mastectomy and compression fitter, shares all the details:
“Compression garments work by creating pressure gradient causing the flow of fluids away from the area where they are accumulating. The most important time to wear your prevention garment is during exercise or when you will be experiencing pressure changes associated with flying. If diagnosed with lymphedema, a person may have to wear garments much more often than a prevention garment. Either way, compression garments help prevent lymphedema from starting and keeps lymphedema symptoms down to a minimum. Always check with your doctor or lymphedema therapist to see if a compression garment is right for you!” -Beth
