Each month, BRA hosts a virtual gathering to discuss various topics that are either helpful to breast cancer survivors on their journey or informational to help raise awareness for the fight against cancer.

What is BRA?
BRA is an exceptional resource for individuals who are either undergoing treatment or are in remission for breast cancer. BRA was launched in 2021 by a group of breast cancer survivors who used their passion for helping others and their more than 15 years of mentoring experience to create an organization that helps survivors thrive in their “new normal.”
Through dynamic programming and mentorship, BRA has created a community of “strength, resilience, and joy” to support breast cancer survivors at all stages of their journey. The BRA program includes classes on emotional wellness, physical health, nutrition, and education.
BRA Banter Topic for May: Genetic Testing for Breast Cancer and other Hereditary Cancers
On May 22nd, Katherine Wohl will join the BRA team to discuss advancements in genetic testing for breast cancer and other hereditary cancers. Katherine is a Certified Genetic Counselor from Natera, Inc., and she will discuss their Empower Test and additional genetic testing recommendations for cancer screening.
Natera, Inc., is “a global leader in cell-free DNA (cfDNA) testing, dedicated to oncology, women’s health, and organ health. We aim to make personalized genetic testing and diagnostics part of the standard of care to protect health and inform earlier, more targeted interventions that help lead to longer, healthier lives.”
Empower™ is a genetic test for those who want to know more about their risk of developing cancer, why it might be common in their family or want to inform treatment options following a cancer diagnosis. Empower screens for genes associated with increased risk for common hereditary cancers. The multi-cancer panels include commonly screened-for genes related to 12+ types of cancer.
